Inshallah is a word frequently used in Senegal and I imagine most African countries. It's like Que. sera sera, whatever will be will be but involves god. I spent two months in Senegal in early '99 and, despite the fact that I had written about six songs in the week before I departed for Africa, this and "the Nanga Deff song" were the only two songs I wrote there.
Inshallah
All of the pleasures and all of the pain
Nothing comes 'round in this life again
Moments and moments add up to years
Today we can laugh about yesterday's fears
Inshallah inshallah inshallah
Li illallah illa li illalla illa la
(twice)
Lately I'm learning to go with the flow
Let my story unfold without trying to know
The end of the chapter before I begin
To read the next page and feel from within
Inshallah inshallah inshallah
Li illallah illa li illalla illa la
(twice)
Break
Inshallah inshallah inshallah
Li illallah illa li illalla illa la
(twice)
Civilisation's a subjective idea
Striving to gain all the things we desire
And just when we think that our goal's getting near
Our ambition drives our aims higher and higher
Inshallah inshallah inshallah
Li illallah illa li illalla illa la
(twice)
Some friends of mine say a good place to start
Is learning to civilise your heart
Enjoy what you can endure what you can't
Be what you are and not what you aren't
Inshallah inshallah inshallah
Li illallah illa li illalla illa la
(twice)
