I woke up on the 1st June '99 and I was quite deaf. I abandoned the plans I had for work that day and waited for my hearing to return. I decided to go to Barna beach and take a walk. I sat on a rock and meditated for half an hour or so and the opening to "I can't hear you" dropped into my head, complete with melody. I finished it over a cup of coffee in nearby Salthill. I ordered a sandwich finished that and wrote four more songs including "Lookin' for a woman but not lookin' too hard" and "Sometimes Not"
before I left the café. I woke up the next day and I could hear perfectly.

I Can't Hear You

I can't hear you, I can't hear you
I see your mouth moving and your lips are making shapes
But I can't hear you
I can't hear you, I can't hear you
Maybe what you're saying you ain't saying it to me
I can't hear you

Give me a reason a reason to stay
Not to pack my bags and go away
Tell me something something I can hear
Maybe then I'll stick around but I fear

You can't see me, you can't see me
Sure you see an afterimage of what once was
But you can't see what's me now because
You don't want to. do you fear it?
Can't you see it? I can't hear it

Give me a reason a reason to stay
Not to pack my bags and go away
Tell me something something I can hear
Maybe then I'll stick around but I fear

You don't touch me like you used to
You don't touch me I can't reach you
Clinging on to what's been gone for too long
So let me know or let me go let me hear you
I can't hear you I can't hear you
I see your mouth moving as I'm walking out the door
But I can't hear you
I can't hear you
I can't hear you
I can't hear you
I can't hear you

I can't hear you
