Gustavo was guy I'd seen around Galway a bit. He is from Spain and plays Gallithian pipes when he's busking. I met up with him at the Sligo arts festival and over a couple of days me spent a fair bit of time together and talked much about the ultimate busk to get peoples attention. We thought a grand piano would attract a fair response and solved the problem of transportation by installing an engine in it and making it also functional as a camper van. Gustavo promised to build it; I said I'd write the song. I have but it's not on this album.
"Losers and Sinners" is a song for anybody proffessing an interest in music who has never taken the time to listen to music on the street.

Losers and Sinners

Got a call from an old friend out of the blue
Said I hear that your record's just made it through
And I'll be passing through town in a day or two
And I was thinking it'd be nice to have lunch with you
Nice nice nice, different

Then you always backed the winners didn't you
You had no time for the losers and sinners did you
And now the loser's winning you say hi again
And I can remember how you said goodbye again

And my mind wandered back not so many years ago
When I told you I was quitting to give the music a go
You told me I was crazy you didn't want to know
And I said I had to follow my heart and so
I did, I did, I did and we lost touch

But you always backed the winners didn't you
You had no time for the losers and sinners did you
And now the loser's winning you say hi again
And I can remember how you said goodbye again

And my first inclination was to say that I'd no time
Perpetuate the distance, forget the old wine
And then I thought if we meet that I could show you the streets
And that nothing is worthless just cause it ain't sweet
And we can learn, learn, learn from the losers there
We can learn, learn, learn that we need to care

And you always backed the winners didn't you
You had no time for the losers and sinners did you
And now the loser's winning you say hi again
And I can remember how we said goodbye again
